Memorial Day Update from Joel

Shannon and I spent the weekend in San Jose with Lane.  It was great to see him upright in a wheelchair with clothes and shoes on. He was wearing his LovingLane t-shirts the whole time. We were able to join him for some PT as well as meet with his treatment team.  Lane has been making some good progress in a short amount of time and his injury has been re-classified to an ASIA C. He has weaned himself off most of his pain medications and has a good rapport with the doctors and treatment team.
He is tentatively set to discharge June 9th and so we are working diligently on his next destination. Shannon and I were able to visit several nursing homes as well as a private group home and shared those places with Lane. He does not seem very encouraged as he does not want to be with the elderly, rather he would like to be with people his own age.  Unfortunately through our various contacts and research those options do not seem available in the San Jose area so we are expanding our search to Sacramento as Lane would like to be near friends and family.
Lane went on his first outing over the weekend to see Godzilla with some patients from the group and his good friend Josh.  It sounds like they had a great time. Also Lane’s Aunt and her partner came down for the day and brought their black lab service dog, Humor,  which looks a lot like Trapper. All in all Lane is in good spirits and is trying to stay focused on the present. He is encouraged by everyone’s love and support.
